Motoring Offences – Price Transparency

This price information is for assistance in relation to summary only (heard at the Magistrates Court) motoring offences under Part 1 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and s89 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

In most cases we will be able to agree a fixed fee with you in advance. It is difficult to be prescriptive because each case will depend upon the seriousness of the case, the location of the court hearing, whether you want us to appoint Counsel, what you wish us to achieve on your behalf and how you wish us to achieve the outcome. We will always have a free, initial, no obligation discussion.

Legal Fees:

  • Initial telephone conference (phone): Free

  • Initial Conference, take instructions, review evidence and advice on plea: £250 - £500

  • Attend at court to enter a guilty plea with mitigation: £500 - £900

  • Attend at court to enter a not guilty plea: £500

  • Preparation for trial and trial advocacy: £1500 - £2000 (for up to a full day trial).

  • Attend at court to represent at an exceptional hardship or special reasons hearing: £1500 - £2000

  • Mention hearings: £500

The above do not include disbursements / payments to third parties such as barristers, experts or court fees.

All charges are exclusive of VAT.

Factors which may increase these figures including complexity of the case, expert evidence issues, multiple offences, number of witnesses, complexity of legal issues and more than 90 miles from our office address.

Timescales and Key stages of the work:

  • Meet with you to provide instructions on what happened.

  • We will consider initial disclosure, and any other evidence and provide advice.

  • Arranging to take any witness statements if necessary (this will have an additional cost of between £250 to £500 subject to location and issues involved, it may be more depending on the case)

  • We will explain the court procedure to you so you know what to expect on the day of your hearing, and the sentencing options available to the court.

  • We will conduct any further preparatory work, obtain further instructions from you if necessary and answer and flow up queries you have.

  • We cannot provide a timescale of when your hearing will take place, as this depends on the court listing for that day.

  • We will attend court on the day and meet with you before going before the court. We anticipate being t court for up to half a day.

  • We will discuss the outcome with you. If advice is required on appeal, this will carry an additional cost.

  • These type of cases are usually concluded between 1 to 3 months.
